Kamakura Electric Bicycle Tour
The best way to discover the charming seaside town Kamakura is by bicycle. You can see the best spots all in one day, while your experienced guide will tell you about Kamakura`s illustrious past. It was the capital city of Japan in the 13th century, so there are plenty of historical places to see. It is also one of the most popular places to retire if you can afford an expensive house, and it is very easy to see why people would like to spend their sunset years in this wonderful environment.

9.30 am: Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel at 9.30 am, and you will take the train to Kamakura together.
11.15 am: You will pick up your reserved bicycles at Hase station and visit one of the best spots first: the Hase Dera temple. The grounds are immaculately kept and very large, there are many hidden spots to discover here and the sea views are amazing.
12.30 pm: You will then move on to the most famous must-see of Kamakura, the Big Buddha in the Kotokuin temple. This is one of the largest Buddha statues in Japan and a very impressive yet calming sight.
1 pm: Then it is time to buy lunch in a local supermarket and go to a picnic spot with a very nice view. With a bit of luck, Mt. Fuji can be seen from here. If the weather is not great, you can also opt to have lunch in one of the many local restaurants.
1.45 pm: The next spot on the itinerary is the Zeniarai Benten shrine, where people come to literally wash their money in the hopes of it being multiplied.
2.15 pm: After that, you will cycle to the Hokokuji, known for its refreshingly beautiful bamboo forest.
3 pm: Of course, Kamakura`s main shrine that was founded by the family that made the city into a capital city in the past cannot be missed, so you will also make a stop at the Hachimangu shrine. The guide will tell you what shocking event happened here during the Kamakura period.
3.45 pm: Then it is time to drop off the bicycles again, but not before making a quick stop at the beach nearby. After dropping off the bicycles and taking the little tram back to the main station, your guide will take you into the shopping street near the station to see all the delectable edible souvenirs. The guide will then put you on the right train back home around 4.30 pm. You will be back in Tokyo at around 5.30 pm.
***If you want to see Enoshima as well, the romantic green island near Kamakura, you can book an 8.5-hour tour. This tour starts at 9 am in the lobby of your hotel. It is worth seeing this island as well if you have the time, the way there is also a very nice ride along the seaside.

- Perfect start to our trip
This bicycle tour was perfectly planned with a picnic, a cup of matcha tea in a serene setting, a picnic on a hill and a visit to several beautiful temples and shrines. We got lots of historic background information but also stories about daily life in Japan. A big thank you to our guide for this perfect start to our trip!

- Very knowledgeable guides
We hired 3 private guides through this agency for our holiday, and each of them contributed in their own way to our newfound understanding of the history and customs of Japan. We recommend everyone do a private tour at least once to gain a deeper understanding about this multi-layered complex culture. The knowledge we gained through the guides definitely helped us make the most of our trip in Japan.
